The Reliance on Non-Renewable Resources Problem

I can think of one significant way of reducing our reliance on non-renewable resources which reduces the effect on our hip pocket and the environment all at the same time!

We need to radically rethink the way we plan and site our homes. If our homes are sited correctly we can heat, cool and even light our homes with little monetry cost to ourselves or harm to the environment. The only ones who lose out are the power suppliers and personally I don’t think that’s a bad thing!

I wonder why our Aussie Government hasn’t seriously considered encouraging sustainable home building and rennovations in the suburbs.

I am bitterly disappointed to see more and more farmland going under concrete and glass as we build more and more unsustainable energy guzzling dwellings in our outer suburbs!

It’s pretty easy to build a sustainable house sited correctly - it just requires some research and intelligence.

I rekon if there were sustainable display homes in the display home villages to show house buyers that they can still build a wonderful home that suits all their needs, but reduces environmental harm and costs less to run than a “traditional” Aussie house, there would be a lot more correctly sited, sustainable homes in our suburbs.

The Future of Australia

Well, well, well, well…sounds like the start of the Madagascar Penguins when they meet Dr. Blowhole, which has absolutely nothing at all to do with this post :-)

The idea for this poem was inspired by watching QnA on the ABC with Liberal leader Tony Abbott taking questions from the audience and my husband making the comment that this election has only really been about who can manage this country better, rather than who can lead this country well.

Obviously I’d hoped to have this poem up before the election, but that was just not to be…however, I think that the results so far from this election make it very plain that I am not the only one who is disillusioned with Australia’s two major political parties and their leaders. Perhaps I can write a part two?

Hung Parliament?

The most likely outcome of this election seems to be a hung parliament with the balance of power held by four independants and one green! I would have liked to see even more - I am disillusioned by the current government and the previous government. In fact, I am disillusioned with politicians altogether, although I am interested to see if Wyatt Roy gets in at Longman (outskirts of Brisbane) and how his political career pans out.

I didn’t manage to get all my political poems out before the election, oh well. I’m still going to put them up although not today. Perhaps I’ll even get one up about this election…but right now, I’m going to bed - it’s been an exhausting few days and there’s a few more to go!

Bloodless Coup

As I say in the poem, inspired by a cartoon in the Weekend Australian Financial Review June 25-27 – unfortunately I never thought to note down who the cartoonist was to give them credit for my inspiration. Sorry!

It was also was inspired by what the media named the “Bloodless Coup” when Julia Gillard ousted Prime Minister Kevin Rudd from the Australian Labor Party and my feelings concerning it, as well as the upcoming election, my concern with Aussie Pollies and their Parties and a book I had just read to my kids about tsunamis.

I’m Back!!!

Finally, I have returned to my blog. I just read my last post and it made me laugh. It’s almost been another whole year since I did any blogging and I’m still working on my novel! However, I did actually self publish a poetry book called ‘Soaring on Eagles’ Wings’ which I’m really happy with. I think it includes all the poems on this site as well as a whole lot more.

Nine year old boy does have Asperger’s Syndrome, almost 7 year old has something but is undiagnosed as yet, 4 year old, well, we’ll wait and see. Hubby’s health is still an issue, but seeing new GP who is hopeful for some better results. We are hoping. First step in all of this is for the whole family to go Gluten Free - woohoo!!! That’s it for now.

Just In Case You Miss Me

I feel so bad that it’s been soooooooo long since I last posted on Eve’s Daughter, almost a year!!!!

Lots of reasons, lots of excuses, but mainly spending time blogging has had to be shunted down the priority list while I look after my ME/CFS husband, home educate three kids - 8, 6 & 3 (the oldest two are hypersensitive and hyposensitive and are being assessed for Aspergers and high end Autism or something else altogether in a couple of weeks and the third, well, we’ll see…), struggle with housework and in doing so discover I am a “Messie” (no surprises there) but in reading “The Messies Manuel” & “Organizing For Life” both by Sandra Felton also realise that I probably have ADD, I can tick all the boxes! And I’m always tired coz I go to bed too late while still trying to get up early especially as early mornings are really the only time I can work on my novel without interruptions or distractions. So sad, but true, while I’m writing this brilliant novel (well I think so anyway, and it’s a series by-the-way), all other writings, including my poetry, blog and other novels (all first drafts) have been put on hold. Perhaps I’ll put the short story that the novel springs from up one day for anyone who is interested, maybe…

Anyway, time to go, I’m very, very tired, again. So I will stagger off to bed shortly - after writing a little bit more :-)

Stepping Into A New Life - The Saga Continues!

While all this was going on Tim decided to see a counsellor - we needed to find out if the reason he was sick all the time was caused by his thinking, his thought patterns; in other words, to see if perhaps it was “all in his head”, or, was there some other reason, some other thing that could be causing his constant illness. During his counselling experience we purchased a book called I’m Not Crazy, I’m Just A Little Unwell’ by Leigh Hatcher. It is his story about his journey through Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and out the other side. » Read the rest of this entry …

Apologies

And i am going to (with Tim’s help) redesign Eve’s Daughter, although i am still working that out. back soon…i hope!

Indulgences & Addictions

The other day a woman I know said, “I have an ‘addictive personality’. First it was smoking, which I gave up. Now, as you can see, I am addicted to food.” She then said how she was going to conquer this addiction, and I know that she’ll do it, she’s already ”kicked the smoking habit” and she’s that kind of very determined and persistant person, but . . .

Bound Up In The Little Indulgences

Below are two ransomed heart emails that I have recently received (a little while ago now, holding off on publishing this post until I’d finished a couple of other drafts, oh well) full and complete, usually I only post the bits that are relevant, however, in this case both are completely relevant; to only chop out a few bits to quote just won’t give the whole picture leaving anybody who reads this with an incomplete understanding of what the emails are saying and what I am saying. Both these emails were very encouraging, they spoke to my heart, fanning the desires of my heart and the last two lines in the second email gave me my “wake up!” slap!!
